Alpine Strawberries — These Frenchie jewels are my current-favorite variety of strawberry. They’re tiny in size but HUMUNGOUS in flavor. This type of strawberry is extremely fragrant and very sweet. They’re the perfect size for topping my mini cupcakes* and garnishing desserts. I like to eat these completely unadorned, so if you’re making jam or chocolate-dipped strawberries, try finding a bigger type of strawberry like a Rosa Linda or Seascape. These flavor bombs are only available mid-April until the end of June, so get them while you still can.
Wüsthof Kitchen Shears — A good-quality pair of kitchen shears can potentially be your go-to hand tool. I use them for snipping herbs, cutting open bags, snipping chives/scallions, deboning chicken, and even trimming twine. I love mine. But there’s a big difference between a good pair and a cheap pair. When it comes to cutlery, you just have to spring for quality. In the long run, it’ll save you time, money and really just improve the overall quality of your dishes. Wüsthof shears are available at Sur La Table for only $19.95. Trust me, they’re worth every penny.
Bonne Maman Preserves — In an ideal world, I’d exclusively make my own preserves. But who are we kidding? I make a big batch a couple times every summer when berries are overripe and give them out as gifts to family and friends. But when I don’t have the time (or feeling lazy), my favorite, favorite brand to buy is Bonne Maman. They’re great for baking because there’s a perfect amount of pectin in them so they hold up well to high heat and set beautifully. My favorite flavor is apricot, but raspberry is delicious too.
* Try topping my chai cupcakes with alpines instead of raspberries for a fun TWIST.
