I’ve always struggled with breakouts my whole life. In high school, I seriously had the WORST skin. I thought that I would never be able to have clear skin. I was so insecure about my skin that at one point I hated being in pictures because people could see the scars on my cheeks.

Alas, my first world problem came to an end eventually because I found Proactiv. Trust me, it totally worked and cleared up my skin like magic. The only problem was my skin literally was addicted to the chemicals that were in Proactiv. I don’t know what they put in there, but if I skipped even one morning of washing my face, my skin would break out like crazy.

Eventually, I was able to ween myself off the stuff and now I just wash my face using normal cleansers to keep my face clear. When I get the occasional breakout, my new favorite method is using toothpaste. Yes, toothpaste. I don’t know how to explain it, but it totally works. I used to think it was ridiculous before too because people in the 70s would use it. But it really worked. Here’s what I did —

All you need is white toothpaste. Don’t use any striped toothpaste or like Aquafresh, it needs to be white. This is important! 

Then wash your face very thoroughly, but DON’T dry your face. Then apply an amount the size of an edamame to your face and let it foam and soak for 20 minutes.

WARNING: the mentholated ingredients are going to sting and make you cry. But I HATE the gentle stuff for my skin, either you’re going to get rid of the acne or you’re going to live with it for the rest of your life. I literally cry for like 10 minutes and force myself to sit through the 15 minutes. It’s ROUGH the first time, so be careful. I made my cousin do it with me, so I have someone to suffer with.

Then quickly wash it off and then gently pat yourself dry with a towel.

If you want to do a spot treatment, just wash and dry your face and then apply moisturizer first before applying some overnight.

This whole thing sounds crazy but it works. Seriously, I usually see immediate results in the morning. Just don’t do it more often than once a week.
